Feng Shui is HOT-- in Macau casinos

The words "Feng Shui" is buzzing in the media again--- thanks to the grand opening of Venetian Macau casino on August 27.

According to Wall Street Journal,

"Though it is harder for the untrained eye to see, the Venetian has also paid very careful attention to feng shui, the traditional art of designing spaces that are harmonious and auspicious. Matthew Prior, the Sands executive in charge of building the facility, says he worked with a Hong Kong-based feng shui master to vet the orientation, overall design, and use of water in the facility. "We had to balance out all of the key elements," he says.

Feng shui also played a role in the timing of yesterday's activities. Per the master's recommendation, carefully controlled crowds began entering the casino at 7:18 in the evening, a time that, based on Mr. Adelson's birthday, he deemed especially lucky."

This seems to be the first time a western casino executive admits that he uses Feng Shui in his casino.

However, at least in the western media, it is all "harmony and balance" talks which sound as if the casino is taking care of the well-being of the gamblers with Feng Shui.

But the Chinese media in Hong Kong are more blunt. They said most people believe that the Feng Shui designs of casinos are attempts to ensure the gamblers losing their money.

In other words, you should gamble in a casino with bad Feng Shui. OR if you hear a casino is designed with Feng Shui, you probably should stay away from it.

Don't we feel sad that those cool, righteous and spiritual Feng Shui masters or grandmasters, are ganging up with the western capitalists to screw our beloved Asians?

But Feng Shui Masters are also human beings too. They can't refuse a big fat check. There will be more assignments coming as the prelude of Feng Shui battles between Chinese and westerner-owned casinos already begins.

In the early 90's, Las Vegas' MGM Casino had an entrance built in the shaped of a giant lion mouth. Many Asians stayed away from that entrance since it symbolized being 'swallow' alive by a lion.

White Tigers in Form Feng Shui

I was in Mexico City teaching "Practical Date-selection Methods" two weeks ago.

While I was there, my Mexican colleagues took me along to their audit of the corporate headquarters of a major Mexican corporation.

The company has just moved to this new campus for a few months. Problems and lawsuits among long-time partners have surfaced.

The campus has 3 buildings on an area of 300 x200 meters with manicured gardens, fountains and waterfalls. Local TV stations come here often to film their soap-operas.

The building on the right side (tiger side) is the office building with the management and sales stuff housed. The building is zip-zap shaped like a staircase. It is the form for argument and hot temper.

The building on the left side (dragon side) is rectangular in shape. It is used as R&D and warehouse.

The building in the middle is a small building for canteen.

We walked to a certain direction of the office building and saw a pond there.

"Who sits in the office closed to this pond". I asked.

"Me." Answered the youngest son of the owner.

"This pond is called 'white tiger sees mirror'. It will affect the person closed to it. The effects are surgery, accident or sudden death."

I then told him when the events will likely to happen and how to avoid it.

My Mexican colleagues had just did an audit of a multi-millionaire's home. That home has a swimming pool located at "white tiger sees mirror" location. The owner has two sons died of a plane crash.

In Form Feng Shui, there are two other "white tigers" that are also very inauspicious, but not as worse as "white tiger sees mirror." They are:

"White tiger opens mouth"-- this has something to do with the garage door of your neighbor. It affects woman of the house mostly. It causes problem to conceive or miscarriage.

"White tiger exposes bone"-- this has something to do with landscaping rocks in your garden. It affect the woman of the house mostly, causing surgery of the uterus or reproductive organ.

These white tiger stuff are amazingly accurate without using luopan or calculations. They are taught in my "Advanced Form Feng Shui" and "Sha Avoidance Feng Shui" class.

PhD Gowns and Dragon Robe

I was surfing in Google's "Feng Shui" image archive the other day. A young entrepreneur has posted the graduation pixes of his metaphysics school there.

The pixes look very impressive . You see the young entrepreneur and his graduates dressed in PhD style gowns and caps. It is a little bit odd to see the young guy granting a super-sized diploma to someone who could be older than his mother. It looks as if the older students were granting him a diploma.

I told myself, "I should do something like that, requiring my graduates to wear PhD style gown and cap."

"No, you should do something better than PhD gowns." My little voice told me.

"Besides, nowadays, even kindergarten and high school graduates wear gowns."

Then lighting suddenly struck inside my head.

I was in China earlier this year and saw "dragon robes" (robe worn by the Chinese emperor) for sale.

Now I can outdo PhD gown by requiring my graduates wearing "dragon robe". They will be granted the titles of "Emperor of Feng Shui", "Empress of Feng Shui", "Emperor of 4P" .... and so on.

This for sure will blow away titles like "master" or "master-trainer".

Only 20 graduates will be granted these highest possible titles, so book yours ASAP!

"Let's kill the number 4!"

A few days ago, the Hai-Kou city of Hai-nan Island of China, has announced that they will no longer use the number 4 for their car license plate registrations.

The officials maintain that citizen does not like the number four.

"Four" sounds "si" in Chinese. It also sounds like "death" in Chinese too.

Superstition? It is all about "Yi-tou", a Chinese term that is difficult to translate into English. It is something like "building up a premonition"--- in this case, an inauspicious premonition-- to see a number that reminds you of death.

The word "death" can also mean failure in Chinese.

This is similar to westerners' dislike of the number 13.

The Tramp Tower, if I remember right, has no 13th floor. Similar thing found in some buildings in Hong Kong or China, there is no 4th or 14th floor. It is harder to sell units in the 4th and 14th floor of a building.

In the case of 14th floor, the meaning is even worse-- it sounds like "guaranteed death" (or doomed!) in Chinese sound.

On the other hand, the number 7 which is regarded lucky in the west, is not that lucky in Chinese custom.

"7" is a unit of counting for the number of days that a person had died. We have "the first 7" to mean someone had died 7 days (with a special ceremony). At the 49th days (4 x 7) there will be another ceremony for the departed.

Here is a little known secret about the number 7--- house street address with the number 7 (e.g.: xxx7) or the numbers of the a street number total 7 (e.g. 124= 1+2+4 =7) , has high probability of being haunted or found with ghost inside the house.

Medical Feng Shui—leukemia

This is a health case that I've been working on for over two years. I try to be brief here.
PROBLEM:
Husband was diagnosed as having leukemia in 2001.

4P OF PATIENT IN 2001:
All 4-pillars have clashes, sign of severe sickness or even death.

HOUSE PERIOD:
House was built in 1962, moved in 1972, roof replaced once during early 80's. After calibration with actual events happened, the house is still a Period 5 house. There is no guarantee that the period of a house will change with a roof replacement!

HOUSE ORIENTATION:
112 degree, unstable luopan needle, indicating energy around house is not stable. 112 degree is also within the "replacement star" region. This is a red flag.

FENG SHUI METHODS EMPLOYED
Flying Star-- for timing
Ba Zhai-- for health
San Yuan Nine Palace (Master Chang Tai-I's version)--
for measuring quality of qi inside the house
Sha Avoidance -- for avoiding major "shen-sha", most misfortunes are activated by shas (li qi).
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT:
House is well-kept and tidy, typical rambler built in the '60s. No visible "sha" around the house accept sharp roof-top points into the window of the master bedroom in SW (1-2-5).
INDOOR ENVIRONMENT:
Clean and tidy, as the couple's kids have left the house and married. The study room (W, 5-7-9) has erratic magnetic field, indicating either bad qi there or some spirits. Later found that the young girl of previous owner died in this house. And patient had spent a few hours per day in this room doing qi-gong.

..........S..........
843 397 125
934 752 579 sitting
488 216 661

Master bedroom is in SW 1-2-5 area, with part of 5-7-9 lies in the pillow of patient.

Kitchen is in NW 6-6-1.

Living room spread over 4-8-8, 9-3-4, 2-1-6

Main door is in 4-8-8, but was rarely used.

Shopping Center FS mystery

Note: The following was written on Aug. 22, 2004

In 2001, Frank Nursery, a regional flower chain store had filed bankruptcy and had closed some stores.

One of the stores was pretty closed to where I live.

That store was in a pretty new (less than 10 years old) shopping center with major tenants like Target Greatland, TJ Max, Rainbow and Pet Smart. It is a pretty big shopping center.

This Frank store was next to a Pet Smart store. But it is at the edge of left side of the center, so there is no neighbor at the left side of Frank. To make things worse, the left side is a "sunken" slope or sunken dragon. The right side of the store is the right hand side neighbors, meaning strong tigers.

The "ming-tang" is a huge parking lot, which is as big as 4 football fields.

There is no back support for all the stores at this side because they were all built on top of a slope.

2004 is almost over in a few months, the original Frank store location is still vacant since 9/ 2001.

So why can’t shopping center owner lease this space out? In terms of monetary losses, it could be easily over $2M of rental losses.

I take a compass reading-- 270 degree, big void line!

But how come its right side neighbors Pet Smart and TJ Max are doing well??

I let you figure out the reasons.

Urban Form Feng Shui

Note: The following was written on April 22, 2004

About 10 years ago, the MGM Casino in Las Vegas had a big entrance that was shaped like the mouth of a lion.Eventually, the casino took the mouth down as Asian customers, esp. Chinese, do not like the idea of walking into the mouth of a lion, implying losing big to the casino.Chinese are known to be big "whales" there.

When I was in Hong Kong last month, there is a building entrance (see enclosed photo) shaped like the mouth of a monster-- 2 sharp silver color teeth at the door and 2 while eye balls on top (Rhino mouth and crab eyes combined?).
However, people do not seemed to notice it. Even my relative who works nearby was shocked when I told him the entrance looks like a giant mouth.

The section of the street is in Monkok's second busiest cross-junction, with traffic (people/car flow) comparable to that of New York's Time Square. The real estate price there is probably within the top 5 of the most expensive land in the world.
So how do the businesses fare in that building? According to my relative, businesses inside that building come and go pretty quick due to slow traffic.
So do people subconsciously feel walking into the mouth of a monster and avoiding going inside? Or is the "earth luck" (di yun) of the building expired?
I took a luopan reading outside the entrance. The degree is not that bad.
I went into the building. Most businesses were not opened even it was a weekday afternoon. But the "qi" inside was pretty stagnant.

Amazingly, there is a Feng Shui practitioner there who does everything (date selection, Feng shui, face/palm reading, divination, naming.....). But apparently he forgot to Feng Shui his office before moving in.

I walked around the building and eventually find out the reason-- the building is on a void-line.

As to how I find out the void line, it will be discussed in my classes.

Robbery Feng Shui

Note: The following was written on Nov. 12, 2001

Today (Nov. 12, 01) at about the same time an American Airline Airbus crashed into Queens (NY), my neighbor Mrs. X across the street was invaded by 2 robbers.
Our neighborhood was a peaceful one and people left their garage doors open all the time.
This morning, my garage door was opened after my kid went to school. Mrs. X's husband left their garbage door open after he left for work. Mrs. X right-hand-side neighbor garage door was also opened. There is no neighbor at the left-hand-side of Mrs. X's house. I have neighbors at both left and right side of my house.
All the houses were built by the same building at 1997. The designs are almost identical too. No house is more "stand out" than the others.

At around 8am, Mrs. X and her 7 year and 1 year old daughters were woken up by two robbers in her master bedroom. They tied her up and began ransacking her house. The kids were crying.

Mrs. X managed to free herself and escaped with her kids to my house, through my opened garage door. We closed the door right the way.

Violent crime like this has not occurred in this area for over 26 years, according to the police officers who interviewed us.
We were interviewed by TV stations, as the victims are too distraught to talk about the ordeal.
Can we predict this robbery from flying star chart? Here are the charts of her house. My own house's chart is the opposite of this.

Feng Shui Forensic

Note: The following was written on Feb.7, 2002

Here is a sample question from the Kenny Porter School for Feng Shui Wizards. The case is real. Someone actually had died.
The event had happened in a monastery in Nationalist China in July, 1924 (5th moon in Chinese calendar).
No construction date is given.

No move-in date is given.

1924 was Period 4.

Here is the case material:

Two monks were living in one of the rooms in the monastery. One was a senior and the other as a junior monk. The junior monk had a ming-gua of 9-purple fire.
In July 1924, the senior monk felt sick and moved out of that room. The junior monk stayed and died of sickness.

No info on the nature of sickness given.
Given the above data, how do you track down the Feng Shui "pathology" of this case? In other words, why did the poor monk die?
Now you can put on your thinking hat.

Strip Joint Feng Shui

Note: The following was written on Jan 2, 2004

I went to downtown Minneapolis today taking photos of buildings for my "Advanced Form Feng Shui" class (info: www.kenlaifengshui.com ). This city has a few buildings that are pretty famous in the architecture world. Some buildings here are great for illustrating Form Feng Shui concepts.

Like most U.S. cities, downtown Minneapolis has one side that has old buildings dating back to last century. The north side of the city was full of sex shops and adult entertainment establishment 28 years ago when I come here.

Now the area has re-developed with new buildings or renovation of old buildings for the "loft" craze, although a few adult shops are still in business.

I notice that the adult businesses here, including nightclubs, tend to paint black outside the building. In five element theory, black is water. Water is related to sex. Water also means intelligence. I guess one needs some IQ to get you know what.

I've passed by the "Dream xxxx" strip joint and am surprised that it is still in business.

I had visited this joint about 10 years ago. It has at most 6 performing girls whereas only a few blocks away there is a "Deja Vu" franchise with 60- 100 girls.

I'm not familiar how these adult businesses are operated. I just try to find some explanations from Feng Shui perspective.

What is unusual about this joint is that there is a big parking lot in front of it (not on its property)-- a big ming tang (bright hall), great for accumulating water.

Then it faces west-- the "wang" direction of Period 7.

There are both tall buildings on the left and right side of this joint-- strong green dragon and white tiger. It lacks a good support at the back though.

But I think "Dream xxxx" need to "dream" more to survive when Period 8 comes.

The city has built a light rail station in front of this joint (see photo). The roof has multiple iron bars pointing to the joint directly like arrows. This "form sha" can cause accidents to the owner and employees.

Or you may argue that people may be mad at the city when they leave the rail and see the joint point blank. So they may force the city to re-zone the area as "non-adult" business zone and drive this "Dream xxxx" out of business.

This case reminds me of a Chinese restaurant in Omaha with lousy food but still does brisk business due to good surrounding forms.

A tale of 2 trees or Bird Feng Shui

Note: The following was written on Nov 16, 2003

I have visited my friend Tim's office last Friday. His office is located in a well-maintained office park. Regional office of Nike is also in the same park.
The weather was great, 48F or 9C degree, considered warm by local standard. We are used to - 20C weather here.
Tim is a computer product distributor. Upon seeing him, he asked me to refer a church to him.

He wants to be spiritual suddenly.

Before I answer him, I was distracted by a strange scene outside his office.

There are two trees of identical height (around 12 ft. tall, same type) and 10 feet apart. All leaves were shed due to winter, so I could see what's on the tree.

One tree has a bird-feeder and lots of spilled seeds on the ground. Apparently birds nearby have an all-you-can-eat buffet there.

What was strange is that the "buffet" tree has almost no bird standing on it. Instead, the tree in front of Jim's office has a large number of birds standing on it, like Hitchcock's "Bird" movie.

I told Jim, "Don't waste time going to church, just sit and meditate under that tree." He stared at me as if I were a nut.
"Go and stand under that tree and feel the qi yourself."

Tim did and said he felt a stream of warm energy and air that felt like ionized.

Energy points like this one are what the Feng Shui masters hunting for burial grounds or building sites.

"Wall-knife Sha" and void line

This is an amazing case from my file.
A middle-aged Hong Kong couple immigrated to Toronto in 1994 and bought a 7th floor condo in Scarborough. The building has over 20 floors and is part of a big condo park with buildings which either parallel or perpendicular to each other. The buildings look like the following:
:===:
: A
: : :
===

============: : : :
Bldg. B
============: :
x
=========== : : : :
Bldg. C
===========: :

"X" is the location of the client's condo at 7th floor. X is also the location of main entrance of the building.
After moved in the condo, the couple's relationship deteriorates to the point that they sleep in separate beds and rarely talk to each other.
Relations between father and children are bad too. Both have problem getting employment or stuck in low-paying jobs. Both become socially isolated. Money luck is virtually gone. Health of children is OK but the couple gets chronic diseases. Wife lost hair and husband had thyroid problem and lost a lot of weight.

Measurement: Luopan reading at building main door is 0 degree-- big void line. To be sure, I took measurement at 4 corners of the building and get same results. I had taken readings of both apartment door and the "yang side" (balcony)-- the resulting flying star charts explain everything and explain nothing at the same time. But in the balcony, just move the luopan or compass 2 feet from one point, the reading changes 20-30 degrees. Owner said he had put plants in that area and they all died within a month or two.

This twilight zone area is exactly where the wall-edge of building "C" projects or cuts into building "B" and lands on the NW side of client's condo. In form Feng Shui, this is called "wall- knife sha". The master bedroom also locates at this junction. This explains the ill-health of the couple because their kids sleep at other side of the condo.
Owner has hanged a big mirror on the wall facing condo door.

If Einstein were given a Luopan

Note: The following was written on Nov. 4, 2003

I paged thru' a book with this title, "Dear Professor Einstein". It is about the correspondence between Albert Einstein and some school kids.

There is a timeline of Einstein's life in the book. He was born in 1879. In 1884, Einstein's father gave him a compass and he was deeply impressed.

According to "Elegant Universe", a PBS TV series, Einstein had tried to unified magnetism, gravity and electro-magnetic force into a grand theory.

Feng Shui is very magnetism-oriented. I wonder if Einstein's father had given him a luopan instead of a compass, will we have "quantum Feng Shui" today?

Modern Pharaohs-- episode II

Note: The following was written on Jul 5, 2003

I wrote about "modern Pharaohs" in last December. Here is two quotes to refresh your memory.

"Modern Pharaohs do not build tombs but grandeur office buildings. They are the CEOs and executives of big corporations."

"Call it the edifice complex or the headquarters hex. There is an uncanny link between the unveiling of a glorious new facility and a nosedive in a company's fortunes."

Now episode II....

Best Buy, a nationwide electronic store in the U.S., has just built a US$160 million campus in Richfield, Minneapolis, MN.

The campus consists of 4 big buildings in the shape of an ocean liner, with top levels bigger than the foundation (just like a boat!) and a sharp edge (boat spine) point outward. Each building points to a different direction.

There is a big fountain in the west (rough estimate by watching sun shadow, not measured) and an artificial pond in the east. The whole campus sits inside a big circle, with Hwy 494 encircles part of it.

When Best Buy begins moving into this new headquarter last April, they started their first layoff in corporate history.

Last week or so, they announced their first quarter loss in corporate history. They have dumped their Musicland group (consists of over 1000 Sam Goody, Gold coast and MediaPlay stores) free to another financial group for assuming the real estate leases and liabilities. This Musicland subsidiary has been bleeding money like hell for Best Buy.

Coincidence or what?

Without using any fancy Feng Shui theory, just by looking at the shape of Best Buy's HQ, one may deduce that big shots in the company are getting too ambitious without a big enough foundation to support their ideas. Then with 4 big ships sailing at different directions, one may deduce there may be internal discords and constant switching focuses. They has just changed their advertisement to attract older age group consumers and redesigned the layout of their stores to high end consumer electronics and cut down on software titles.

However, the land form of the whole campus is good because everything is inside a circle, esp. the Hwy 494 side that has over 100k vehicles passing by. So the company could still be prosperous in the future.

Oh, I do not even bother to mention the effects of the fountain and pond yet.

"Watching the Tree" and attribution of success

I paged thru' a book "Watching the Tree" by Adeline Yen Mah, author of the bestseller "Falling Leaves." The book is on the bargain shelve ($5.98) of Barnes & Noble, next to a few of L. Too's books and other spirituality books.
This book is a collection of Mah's childhood memories and her own views about Chinese culture. Chapter 10 is on her view about Feng Shui, which is quite representative of many Chinese intellectuals-- Feng Shui is superstition.
Mah cites two of her personal Feng Shui experience. First was about her father, who had rented a house from a landlord during early fifties in Hong Kong. The landlord was a Feng Shui expert.

The landlord said his house had good Feng Shui. Mah's family just laughed it off and did not take it seriously. Then Mah's seventy-something grandpa had died soon after moving-in.
Mah's father questioned the landlord about his good Feng Shui claim. Landlord replied that it is not unusual for a 70+ years old guy die of old age.

The business of Mah's father went well after moving into this house. Mah herself had won top prizes in international writing competition.

So, did Mah's family think the house had good Feng Shui? Nope.
Then Mah had a young brother, her father's favorite son, suddenly died of an acute sickness.

Her father questioned the Feng Shui landlord again and he could not give an explanation either.

They moved out of that house.

According to some social psychological researches, people tend to attribute success to their own personal qualities and hard work and failures/ disasters to external factors like Feng Shui, third parties and factors that are beyond their control.

Sometimes you may offend some people by saying their successes are due to good Feng Shui of their house or office, especially for people who do not believe in Feng Shui theories. They think you try to minimize of their personal efforts and talents.

On the other hand, some Feng Shui practitioners tend to attribute any success, financial or otherwise, solely to their Feng Shui remedies. Some even claim "overnight millionaire" Feng Shui tricks.

It is not difficult to create "millionaire" in California, if I play my cards right.

Real estate is pretty expensive in L.A., especially around new China Town area like Monterey Park, Acadia, and etc. An average house could easily cost US$400- 500k and $600- 700k houses are all over.

WET FENG SHUI

Note: The following was written on Jan 31, 2003

Got your attention? Too bad, this is not what you think.
I saw a Discovery Channel program about burial at sea. Someone invented a new sea burial method-- mixing the ashes of deceased with cement to build an artificial coral reef and sink it into the sea. So the deceased will become sea creature habitat.

Then a pal in Singapore emailed me an ad for underwater pagoda burial.
Singapore is a tiny country with limited space for burial. Some marketers think of mixing ashes of the deceased with cement and mould it into cement blocks. Then treat the blocks with water- resistant compound and build it into a pagoda. The pagoda will be sunk into sea with an anchor and GPS.
So do you think your love ones will be happy to be wet 24x7?
I think westerners may have no problem of becoming an artificial coral reef after they died. For Chinese, this will be a tough sell.
According to yin Feng Shui, it is a big "no-no" for tombs that are flooded with water. Extreme bad-luck and strange diseases will befall to the descendants of the deceased.
However, in these cases where the deceased are cremated, the effect on descendants may not be as potent. The ashes are essentially carbon.

In any event, personally I don't like spending my eternity wet. I'll tell you a fun alternative in my next msg. So don't kill yourself yet until you have read my next msg.

(PS: The msg. had never been written because it was about space burial and the Challenger space shuttle accident was happened around that time)

Love Thy Neighbor

Note: The following was written on Jan 18, 2003

Local TV news reports that an adult video and lingerie store has opened next to a Baptist Church in a small town.

One can see the giant sign "Pure Pleasure" through the window of the priest's office.
Of course, church members are mad and voice their displeasure to local media.

The owner of the adult store then displays a big mobile sign outside his store. On one side of the sign says, "God say enjoy sex" and the other side, "Clergy Discount".
The adult store owner tries to "love thy neighbor". But his neighbor tries to drive him out of the neighborhood by complaining to the City and tries to re-zone the area as not suitable for adult business.
In terms of Feng Shui, it’s stupid to open a business or build a house next to a church or temple.

Church or temple has too much yin and spiritual energies that will deplete or draw too much qi from houses nearby.

Church belongs to fire element and adult business water element. So the adult shop will eventually goes out of business even without interference from church members.

If the church seeks my advice, I'll tell them put a big cross pointing to the adult shop. This will drive him out quicker. Or simply hang a bagua mirror pointing at the adult shop, but this will be too pagan to the church people.

Feng Shui Story (almost)

When I was a kid, I had seen a Disney movie about a dog guarded its master's grave after his death.

The town people had buried this dog next to its master after its own death. They had also created a statue of this dog. It becomes a tourist attraction nowadays.

In 1630 (late Ming Dynasty), Emperor Chang Qing was misinformed (by his Manchurian enemy) about the loyalty of General Yuan Chang Huan, one of his better commander-in-chiefs. General Yuan was accused of treason and sentenced to death by cutting into pieces. His head was hanged above the city wall to warn other possible traitors.

General She, an officer of Yuan, knew the accusation was false. He had risked his life stealing the head of General Yuan.

General She had buried Yuan in his backyard in Beijing. He had instructed his descendants not to work for the government, so that they could guard General Yuan's tomb.

160 years later, the Qing Government had released historical records and cleared the General Yuan's false accusation. The She descendants were still guarding Yuan's tomb. Even the Qing Emperor Qian Long (coins minted during his reign is a favorite Feng Shui cure) had commended
their action and loyalty.

In 1952, the Chinese communist government wanted to move all ancient tombs out of Beijing municipal area. She's descendants were still guarding the tomb. They had begged many high ranking officials to spare the tomb. Miracle did happen; Chairman Mao had spared the tomb.

But in 1966 (the Cultural Revolution), Yuan's tombstone was smashed by the Red Guards. The tomb hall was occupied by 10+ families. The She family was kicked out to a goat stable.

In 1992, Beijing City Government had budgeted RMB$50,000 to repair the tomb, but the squatters still occupy the tomb hall.

She descendants campaigned hard for the removal of squatters from the tomb.

Last year, the city government had ordered the eviction of squatters, remodeling of Yuan's tomb and opening it to tourists. But the order does not specify rebuilding the house for the tomb
guardians-- the She family.

Seventeen generations of the She descendants have guarded General Yuan's tomb for 372 years.

The government has offered the She family a bigger house outside the tomb, RMB$200,000 (US$25000) as compensation and lifetime consultancy.

The She family has declined the offer, saying that they are not aiming for money and fame but for doing something meaningful. "We cannot face our ancestors and descendants if we stop our
tomb-guarding duty after 372 years.

Titanic Feng Shui

Note: The following was written around 2003

Titanic Feng Shui? Do you mean underwater Feng Shui? No, I just want to grab your attention.

When Titanic sank, the rescuers had recovered only one child body. The surviving crew members donated money and erected a monument unscripted with "Erected to the memory of an unknown child died in Titanic April 15, 1912." The town people of Halifax attended the unknown child's funeral in a grand fashion—he represented all the children died in the tragedy.

In the last few weeks the public TV here (U.S.) airs a special on how DNA scientists identified the unknown child's DNA and tracked down his relatives.
Many of the Titanic victims were buried in Halifax (Canada). To obtain some DNAs from the victims, the DNA scientists must exhume their graves.
(Now some yin Feng Shui)

Assuming you are a graduate of any yin Feng Shui class, how can you tell, by just looking at the tombstone—if the grave is flooded, if the body became mummified, if the descendants (or direct relatives) are prosperous, if the descendants are lustful, if the descendants become outlaws,.......

An experienced yin Feng Shui guy should be able to tell without digging up the graves. Old tombs like the Titanic ones are great for case studies of yin Feng Shui as there are extensive genealogical researches done.
(Now at the cemetery)

The cemetery where the Titanic victims were buried was built on a hill slope. The yin Feng Shui would be reasonably good if the backs of the tombstones (and coffins too) are facing the hill slope. Unfortunately, this cemetery was designed more for the living than the dead. Tombs' orientations are based on the pavements (pathways), so you have some tombstones facing the hill slope and some are opposite. The unknown child and quite a few of the Titanic victims' tombs are on the "wrong" side, according to yin Feng Shui standard.

Besides the unknown child, DNA scientists also want to ascertain the DNAs of a couple victims buried there. They have obtained DNAs of surviving relatives.

When they exhumed the graves of other victims, they found the graves were flooded and no bones or any DNA-worthy materials were recovered. This is not a big surprise, considering the tombs are almost 90 years old.

Then they exhumed the grave of the unknown child. It was not flooded. But only a tiny bone and 3 teeth were recovered. A DNA scientist said that the tiny bone is an outcry of the unknown child to be identified.

Sniper & Dao (Tao)

Note: The following was written on Oct 25, 2002

There is a Chinese saying, "When one attains Dao, even his chicken and dogs go to heaven with him."

This statement does not really address "Dao" but saying when one gets famous, anything remotely related to him will come and take a cut of the good fortune.

The Maryland snipers were caught now. The mass media try to dig up anything remotely elated to the snipers-- their high school pals, their old neighbors, their remotely related relatives, ex-wives........ Everyone tries to get his/ her 15 minutes of fame.

It seems when one dumps Dao (becomes infamous), his chicken and dogs still go to heaven--- without him/ her.

BTW, yesterday on TV, there were many aerial shots of the duplex previously resided by the sniper-suspect. If you are familiar with Form Feng Shui, you should find quite a few Feng Shui clashes among the neighbors.

Feng Shui of Frank L Wright's Taliesin Home (WI)

I saw a re-run of Ken Burns' documentary on Frank L. Wright. Wright is hailed as the greatest American Architect of the 20th century. He is famous for his organic style architecture.

Frank's life was full of scandals, tragedies and ups and downs. So the Feng Shui of his residence should be of interest to any inquiring Feng Shui mind.
Frank had built his Taliesin residence in 1911 and stayed there most of the time and till his death in 1959.

I have not visited the Taliesin site, so I just rely on the descriptions and map from the Taliesin website to do this "paper audit".

From the website's map, we can see the house shape has 3 wings, like a flapped "E". In terms of form Feng Shui, it has a "run-way dragon". This means the male head does not want to stay home too much and problem getting helping people.

In real life, Wright was not closed to his children or wife and treated his buildings like his children. Wright's father had dumped his mother. Frank hated his birth father to the guts and did not go to his funeral. Yet Frank did the same to his wife. History repeated itself.

There are two wings at the right side-- two white tigers! Wright got a mistress openly and created a scandal (it was conservative at the turn of the century).

At the back of the house, there is a pond. But the house is built on a slope, so if it rains, water should flow from the house to the pond. This meant that the owner would not be able to keep his money.

This house had two fires over the years. One had happened in August 1914 with a murder of 7 people. Frank's mistress and her 2 children was murdered by a male servant with an axe, who then set fire to the residential wing of the house.

Frank had rebuilt the house and called it Taliesin II. It then was burnt in April 1925. Frank again had rebuilt it and called it Taliesin III.

From the description of the website, the flying chart looks like this: (ms,ts,ws)
S sitting
521 175 393
E 412 639 857 W
966 284 748
facing N

The chart smells blood and fire all over! The 7 water star in the west sees water which would activate injury by metal (5-7). The ms 3 is thrown into water (pond at the back). This would hurt people (murder here). 9-6 in the NE, NE refers to son or male servant in business relationship. 9-6 means mental problem. Center palace is 6-9 which means disobedient son or subordinate.
