1001 reasons that people with the same birth chart may have different destiny

People with the same 4P or birth chart may have different destiny because they have:

1.   different parents, including different socio-economic characteristics
2.   different DNA
3.   different conception time
4.   different conception locations: one may be conceived inside a car whereas the other one in a bedroom (different Feng Shui influences)
5.   different geographic areas:  person who lives in a cold region will do better if his chart is too hot
6.   different birth minutes: one may be born at the beginning of the hour whereas the other one at the end of the hour
7.   different birth environments: one may be born on a ship whereas the other in a hospital
8.   different birth order: one may be the first born while the other the 4th kid in the family
9.   different names: one may be named "stupid" whereas the other one "smartie"
10. different Feng Shui environments when growing up
11. different regional earth luck
12. different karma credit balance spilled over from previous life times
13. different social networks: interactions or exchange of energies with different social groups will give rise to different life experience and opportunities and hence different destinies.
14. free will to make their own choices leading to different outcomes

"Ken, how about identical twins born and raise in the same environment yet experience very different life events?"

Good question!  There is a critical reason for that-- get it in my class or 4P-bootcamp discussion list.

Minimal Feng Shui guide for 2010 Year of Tiger

The annual chart for 2010 is: (top is south, bottom is north)

7  3  5
6  8  1
2  4  9

Annual chart is based on Purple White Method which holds that 1,6, and 9 star locations are auspicious. When you match it with the palace stars (post-heaven locations), SW location for 2010 will have the 2-5 stars (sickness and death) combination. So be very careful with that location-- avoid construction and movement and put the metal/coin-solution fix there.

OTHER PRECAUTIONS:

Grand Duke is at yin mountain or NE3-- avoid construction or digging.

Sui Po or year-breaker is at shen mountain or SW3-- avoid construction or digging.

San Sha or 3-killings are at hai, zi and chou mountains or NW3, N2, NE1-- avoid construction or digging.

5-yellow at Kun palace (SW)- avoid construction or digging. and movements.

5-tiger sha at zi, chou and jia mountains or N2, NE1, E1-- avoid construction or digging, movements.

Yang nobleman sign for this year is chou (ox). Yin nobleman is wei (ram).

You need to do a good date-selection if you need to do construction in  any of the above location (mountains/ palace) or better do it before end of the current year.

People with monkey or tiger zodiac sign should avoid seeing putting corpse in coffin or burial for this year.

Merry X’mas!

Escape from cell phone hell

Have you ever wondered why people will not talk much to each other when they are face to face but can’t stop talking when they talk on their cell phones?

Nowadays when you go to any public spaces like supermarkets, bookstores, libraries or anywhere, you are likely running into people who keep talking trivialities on their cell phones loudly, pissing off everyone nearby them.

At least, in big public spaces, one can walk away from the talkers to get some tranquility. But in a closed area like in a flight cabin, bus, or subway, you have nowhere to hide but become captive audience of their boring to death monologues (very often, they do all the talking).

Last year while in Hong Kong, I was in an express bus with a guy talking loudly on his cell phone continuously non-stop. He talked about his workplace rivals and how he will make his rivals' life miserable…. simple things that he could have done talking in 2 minutes.  But he kept repeating the same craps again and again (and my MP3 player was out of battery!) . This was extreme torturing to me and other passengers. So I had invoked my guardian angel, Immortal Wong Tai Sin to help. Within 2 minutes, his phone line suddenly dropped dead and peace at last for everyone in the bus.

"Ken, do you do this often?”

Not that often at all.  Your guardian angel is not your butler. That was the only time I have invoked him for help.  Also it may be a violation of Federal Communication Law...

Making money from the horse-back

Have you ever seen a brass horse figurine with a monkey or a fly on its back when you are in a Chinese Feng Shui store? What is it "good for"?

This "auspicious symbol" is based on the pronunciation of "on the horse" in Chinese-- "mǎ shàng 馬上". It sounds like "immediately" in Chinese sound.

Monkey is hóu, same pronunciation as 候 hòu, as in "high officials or nobility". So "Monkey on horse" will literally sounds like "Becoming a high offical/ nobility immediately" or speedy advance in career.

Fly is cāng-ying 蒼蠅. Cāng also sounds like cāng 倉 as in warehouse. Ying also sounds like ying 盈 as in surplus. So "fly on a horse" will sound like "Immediate surplus in the warehouse".

Based on the association with the pronunciation of auspicious word, "monkey-on-a-horse" or "fly-on-a-horse" becomes auspicious symbol to promote career or business success. Many Chinese auspicious symbols are based on this principle. For example, bat sounds like "blessing" and so bats are considered auspicious by the Chinese.

This "on-the-horse"  or "immediately ....."  gig provides pretty good business for brass figurine manufacturers and Feng Shui marketers.

Make sure you don't put a fan on a horse-back and give it to your Chinese pal as a gift-- it becomes "wind-on-the-horse"-- meaning getting a stroke while having sex.

Nobel Prize's Twilight Zone

Imagine one day you watch TV and hear the anchorman announce that you have won the Nobel Prize and you do not know what is a Nobel Prize and ask your wife about it-- is it possible?

This incident has happened to Charles K. Kao, a.k.a. "Father of Fiber Optics"-- 2009 Nobel Laureate for Physics. His  discoveries make modern communications and internet possible.

Mr. Kao has Alzheimer's disease and has pretty much forgotten all his work.  His wife Gwen said "the husband that I used to know is no longer there".  Charles will deliver his Nobel Lecture today through his wife  (Dec. 8, 2009) in Sweden.
http://nobelprize.org/award_ceremonies/lectures_2009.html

Kao's collegues said if the Prize has arrived a year or two earlier before his mental condition deteriorates, Kao would have been able to understand and enjoy it.

Better late than never?

Field imageries: Qi-Men-Dun-Jia vs. Plum Flower Divination

In Qi-Men-Dun-Jia, there are many “indicators” or imageries seen in the field for almost every aspect of 9-stars, 9-stems, 8-gods and the like. These indicators are material objects, animals, scenes, colors, different walks of life and etc. Many teachers do not place too much attention for these indicators, largely because many of these indicators or imageries are no longer found in modern life and environment.

These indicators are supposedly showing that your QMDJ application is working or in the process of working. Here I choose the two of the Ba-Men (gates) for you to get a feel of it. I have tried my best to "modernize” these indicators to fit current situations. For examples:

XIU-MEN (Living Gate, very auspicious)
When you go through xiu-men, you will see a noble person (high status) at 30 li (about 21 miles) OR see snake, rat or water creatures at 50 li (about 35 miles)

SI-MEN (Death Gate, very inauspicious)
When you go through si-men, you will see a funeral or dead people OR see crying, mourning, patient or prisoner at 20 li (about 14 miles)

For QMDJ, these indicators are "signs" for the particular QMDJ application-- i.e. the user will look for these signs if the anticipated results are coming.

On the other hand, Plum Flower Divination (PF) also uses field imageries extensively. Unlike QMDJ, the imageries or signs are not prescribed. The implied meaning of an imagery can override the hexagram predictions generated by Plum Flower Divination. For example, if your client asks about the sickness of his father and you see or hear a funeral hearse passing by (even if you see the hearse on TV at that instant), a PF prediction, regardless of the hexagram generated, will be death for the patient.

For PF, field imageries that are positive will be positive for the prediction most of the time, the opposite is true for negative imageries. "Omen" can dictate the results of PF. So make sure you do not take a negative thinker along to your PF divination session!

For QMDJ, there is almost no value-judgment on the imageries other than as indicators that the QMDJ process is working or not.

Depending on your school and teacher-- some insist on the signs must show up or your QMDJ applications will not work. Others do not attach much importance to it.

While QMDJ can also do divination, but it is not easy to master because there are too many formula and techniques to remember. Most people can pick up PF pretty quick and do good divinations in much shorter time and cost less money.

I have shown QMDJ can also do birth chart reading like 4P in my "Imperial QMDJ" seminar and video. But I think 4P does a better job in that aspect.

QMDJ is better and more flexible in date-selection-- "everyday is a good day as long as you choose the right direction." QMDJ date-selection is much easier to learn than traditional date-selection methods. People with knowledge of stem and branches can learn it within an hour with my "Practical Imperial QMDJ" video correspondence course.

Tomb-storage or tomb AND storage?

In general 4-pillars texts, chen, xu, chou and wei are called "tomb-storages".  They are derived from the San-He formula (the 12 life-stages):
1. hai-mao-wei: wei is the tomb for wood
2. yin-wu-xu: xu is the tomb for fire
3. shen-zi-chen:  chen is the tomb for water
4. si-you-chou: chou is the tomb for metal

This only explains the "tomb" part of the tomb-storage term.  Where does the "storage" come from?

Chen-xu-chou- wei are also called "4 storages".  We use it to check if a person can hold on to his wealth or as the capacity to learn metaphysics.

If you check the formula for 3-meeting (San Hui) formula:
1. yin-mao-chen is wood-3-meeting:  Here chen functions as the storage of wood
2. si-wu-wei is fire-3-meeting: wei functions as the storage of fire
hai-zi-chou is water-3-meeting:  chou functions as the storage of water
shen-you-xu is metal-3-meeting: xu functions as storage of metal

Merging the two above, you can see:
1. Chen is the storage of wood and tomb for water
2. Wei is the storage of fire and tomb for wood
3. Xu is the storage for metal and tomb for fire
4. Chou is the storage for water and tomb for metal

Chen and wei are both the storage of wood. But chen's energy is based on 3-meeting which is much greater than wei's wood-3-unity.

In 4P texts, there are vague statements about the clashing of chen-xu-chou-wei as "auspicious" or "good for wealth". But there are also statements of "doom" when the 4-storages are clashed.

When is good to clash or when is bad to clash the tomb/storage? It all comes back to ..... (check 4P Bootcamp discussion list).

It can easily take 4 hours to a whole day to discuss chen-xu-chou-wei.

Hell does not take American Express, but it takes ....

When Chinese make offerings to their deceased relatives or hungry ghosts, they burn "joss paper money" for the ghosts to spend in the underworld.

Traditionally, this joss paper money carries the portrait of Emperor Yin Niu or "King of Hell" with a minimum denomination of 10 thousand dollars.

Recently I discover that in Taiwan, they have new "hell currencies".  These are:
1.  $500 US dollars with Ben Franklin's portrait
2.  $100 RMB (Chinese Yuan) with Chairman Mao's picture
3.  NT$1000 (New Taiwan dollar)

Apparently now Hell will take US dollars and RMB.  Given the huge differential in amount per note,  I wonder if the ghosts prefer the original joss paper money or the "new" US dollars or RMB.

Maybe Hell also has a mortgage crisis rendering its joss paper money value down to the toilet.

Maybe Hell people want to start their FOREX trading with RMB and US dollars.

You can do a "5-ghosts delivering wealth" ritual offering different currency and see which one brings better results.

"My current luck sucks, ..........."

"My current luck sucks, ..........."

The last thing people will say is:  "because I'm an ass or I did something bad."
For Chinese in Taiwan, they are likely to say, "It must be something wrong with my fortune or Feng Shui.  Let me consult a lao-shi."  Lao-shi means "teacher" or "master" in Chinese.  People in Hong Kong will pretty much say the same thing, except they call lao-shi as shi-fu.

They luckier ones may have their own steady fortune-teller who is more than likely, also a Feng Shui master.

The master will check the client's 4-pillar or ZWDS chart and see if the client is in a bad annual or 10-year luck period.  If there is nothing wrong with luck period, the master will suggest checking the Feng Shui of client's residence.   If there is nothing wrong with client's house Feng Shui, the master will suggest checking the tomb Feng Shui of client's deceased close-relatives.

For those who do not have a trusted master, they are likely running into not-so capable "master" who will mess up their Feng Shui even more --- due to their current bad luck!

I have taught some seminars in Mexico in the last few years.  For Mexicans, at least for those that I run into, when faced with  "My current luck sucks, ..........." situation, their likely response will be:

"Someone has voodooed me!"

This seems to be a "standard" response from South Americans as even their leaders like Venezuela's Chavez have their own voodoo guys.

According to them, the "sign" that someone has done witchcraft on you is that your home suddenly has flies flying around.  They will need to find a more powerful voodoo guy to expell the spell on them.

No wonder my "Daoist talismans for Feng Shui and Blessing" course is the most popular course there.  It has a section on protection from voodoo.

PhD and migrant worker

I have read an interesting story from a Chinese website.  A factory in a major Chinese city has imported a bar soap packaging production line.  The line has rampant problems of not putting the soap into the box.  The factory owner had found a PhD in automation to solve this empty-box problem.

The PhD in turn had recruited another 10+ people to reseach the problem.  They finally have integrated micro-electronics, X-ray and mechanical technology to design a system to tackle the empty-box problem.  This costs the factory over half-million dollars.

When packaged soap box without the bar inside passing through the sensors of this system, a mechanical hand will push the box out of the moving belt.

Another factory located in a small town in southern China has imported the same bar soap packaging line. This factory is staffed mostly by migrant workers from the countryside.

The factory owner was very agitated when discovering the empty-box problem.  He grabbed a migrant worker out of the production line and yelled, "Solve this f___ing problem for me or your ass is on the line!"

This migrant worker had found a solution quickly-- he put up an electric fan, set it to highest blowing speed at the end of production.  Empty boxes will be blown away when coming.   The fan costs less than $200.

"Hi Ken,  does this soap packaging story has anything to do with Feng Shui or Chinese metaphysics?"

Almost every trade can learn something from this story.  Here are some of the lessons:

1. There are many solutions to the same problem
2. Not the "latest and greatest" answer or technology are the best solution or cost-effective.
3. Simple solution that does the same thing is better than complicated solution
4. PhDs are not necessarily smarter than you, but for sure they cost you more

In Feng Shui, "the latest and greatest" are likely be the ones that did not work too well in distant past and got recycled as the latest secret recently "released".

Some Feng Shui problems can be solved by simple 5-element adjustments, forms (Feng Shui) or even using bagua theory.  Instead,  some people hire "famous" or expensive Feng Shui masters who likely will turn your house upside down with major remodeling or tilt your doors.

Approaches to handle the "missing" birth hour problem

A major problem affecting the accuracy of Bazi or most astrological methods is the "missing" or inaccurate birth hour reported.

Astrological method like Zi-Wei-Dou-Shu is more birth hour sensitive than Bazi.  An incorrectly reported birth hour will affect the final reading drastically.  Bazi is more day-pillar focused, but sometimes incorrect hour will turn the reading upside-down!

The followings are some approaches to estimate the hour data using client's (DM):

1.  personality to estimate the hour
2.  birth order
3.  hair-ring on the head
4.  sleeping posture
5.  face shape
6.  length comparisons of certain fingers
7.  year moved, immigrated, major travel, career change

"Ken, which method do you use?"

"I plug in the 12 possible Chinese hours into the chart and see which hour fits the life experience of the client better."

"This takes a lot of time!"

"Not really when you use a 4P chart plotting program.  There is one such program that you can use in my website for free.  I can run through 12 possible hours in less than 10 minutes."

Not everyone can use computer to do 4P charts, so the most common approach is doing 3 different charts-- one according to the hour reported, one "minus one hour" from the reported hour and one "plus one" hour.

When everything fails, my last resort is pulling out my cell phone.

"Call your friend or .......?"

This is my lineage secret.  You have to come to my class to get it.

Funny lineage math

Disclaimer:  Ken Lai is neither a lineage-hugger nor a "no-lineage independent".  He is a "whatever works" opportunist regardless of the origin.

A common criticism of the lineage system is the practice of "keeping a hand" (留一手  liú yī shǒu; witholding some secrets) by the Sifu (teacher) from his disciples.  This practice is probably as popular if not more common today than ancient times.

In the old days, choosing an "indoor student" was like picking a life-long partner.  The master checked everything and especially the moral character of the potential student.  The student will serve the master  from cleaning his toilet to carry his luopan for many years before getting some "real knowledge".   Today, this type of fellowship is replaced by commodity economy -- paying a huge sum of money to the master.  There are cases of "guaranteed indoorship" without even looking at the incoming student provided US$5000 or more is paid.  It is like selling a franchise to the student who will in turn market the same thing as soon as he "graduates".  The master has more incentive to "keep a hand" to maintain his "upperhand"  because people are more materialistic than those in the old days.

Some critics frequently use a simple math formula to discredit the lineage system.  The logic is simple:  if every generation keeps 10% secrets from the next generation, a lineage will have nothing left after 10 to 12 generations.

This argument is mathematically and even logically sound.  It is an example of simplistic or deceptive reasoning using numbers.  It assumes:

1.  the lineage's knowledge-base does not grow over generations
2.  "keeping a hand" always happens, even between father and son situation
3.  the junior generation will always be satisfied with whatever craps that previous generation gave them
4.  the junior generation will not THINK and develop their own solution when critical info is witheld

If you do not believe my arguments, just look at how many different "varieties" of Flying Star Feng Shui out there--- at least 10+ with variations from funny ways of flying the stars, counting yang-yin, tai-ji, periods to mixing concepts with other schools.  Most come with their own re-interpretations of Feng Shui classics like the "Green Satchel Classic".   All claim to be "authentic". Same scenario with Bazhai Feng Shui.

Therefore, this "keeping a hand" practice actually simulates creativity and explorations instead of killing or diluting the lineage system.  People are always curious and trying to "figure out" if something are missing or witheld. Whether the end results are positive or negative will be another long discussion.  Everything comes in a package of both good and not so good.

"Heaven's secrets: No transfer to the morally decrepit"

Yesterday, I accidentally opened a digitally-scanned version of my Feng Shui sifu's hand-written manuscript that I had received years ago but never read.  The document has less than 70 pages.

The first sentence of first page had this written: " XXXXXX School Yang Residence Concepts: HEAVEN'S SECRETS: NO TRANSFER TO THE MORALLY DECREPIT" (匪人勿傳  fěi rén wù chuá).

The manuscript lists the XXXXX School version of yin-yang, forms, tai-ji, XKDG, sha neuralizations, sha-fighting, luopan design, water methods and even date-selection with 30% space in diagrams --- all in less than 70 pages!  It even specifies which item is top lineage secret and warns about the indiscriminate transfer to the "wrong" people will cut short your blessings or even your life.

In the "Sha-fighting" section, the writer repeatedly warns that about the possible fatality if the sha-fighting is not done right.  The procedures and techniques are very different from those you found in books  or most of the existing courses out there.  My suggestion is:  do not fight sha unless your life is absolutely worthless.  Your life worths more than the possible wealth that sha-fighting generates.

The crown jewel of this school probably is how to convert an inauspicious region into auspicious.  The writer specifically warns, "do not publicize this; only teach to your indoor student ......"

How do you know these so-called "lineage secrets" are for real?

The first thing is to observe your Sifu or teacher-- is s/he a righteous or honorable person?   Does s/he do what s/he preaches? How s/he treats people gives you a general idea of how credible s/he is.  But this has no guarantee either if s/he is a charismatic person.

A real secret is like a lighting rod that suddenly illuminates everything-- something that make you yell "Ah!" Suddenly everything makes sense after you have "plugged" in the secret.

A not-so-real secret will complicate your mind even more instead of simplifying it.  Real secrets normally are simple and eloquent.

Most contents of this hand-written manuscript were published in books except the critical components or "lineage secrets" are missing.  It costs an arm and leg to become an "indoor student" to get the "real thing".

"How about share your lineage secrets here?"

Good try! Pal.  My old teacher still needs to make a living out of it.  He has not given me any dead-bed instructions yet.

The implication is: if any Feng Shui guy or teacher promises making you a millionaire/billionaire without looking at your 4P or astrological chart, you may be better off donate your tuition to charity and collect some positive karma points.   Your meng or fate has more influences on your well-being than Feng Shui.

Extreme real estate marketing with numerology

At US$9100 per sq. ft., Hong Kong's Tian-hui Skyscraper (天匯) is the most expensive real estate in the world.

The building is 40 storeys high-- but it has an 88th floor at the highest level! What is going on?

In western societies, the number 13 is considered inauspicious, so some builders have deliberately "skipped" the 13th floor for their buildings. Donald Trump's Trump Tower has done that. For the Chinese, the number 4 sounds like "death", so some buidings will have no 4th, 14th, 40th and 44th floors.

If you go to any China-town, you will see many cars with license plates like "888", "168", "118" and the likes. Properties with "8" number can also be sold at higher prices. Chinese like the number 8 because it sounds like "prosperity" or "getting rich".

Tian-hui Skyscaper is 40 storeys high with 34 residential floors. The followings are the floor number assignments:
*1- 6th floor (commercial/parking)
*8 - 12th floor (5 floors): no 13 and 14th
*15- 23rd floor (9 floors): no 24th
*25- 33rd floor (9 floors): no 34th
*35- 39th floor (9 floors): no 40- 59th
*60- 61 floor (2 floor): no 62nd
*63rd floor (no 64-65th)
*66th floor (no 67th)
*68th floor (no 69-87, jumps to 88th)
*88th floor

This is the most blatant and haphazard floor numbering to attract buyers in history.

Some local consumer groups complain that the real estate developer misleads the public on the numbering of the floors for financial gains. Local politicans criticize the Hong Kong government of failing to regulate the industry. The "4th Uncle", nickname of the developer, said, "Buyers are delighted with the floor numbers!"

Whoever can afford US$9100 per sq. ft. or US$56M for a 6200 sq. ft. unit in the building should not be too stupid.

Incidentially, the height of the building is 152 meters. "152" sounds like "not easy to maintain the #1 position" in the local Cantonese dialect. In terms of Feng Shui, 5-2 combination means disaster and major sickness or even death! Fortunately the "1" mitigates the negative effects of 5-2 a little bit.

3-Penalties dates

Xu month  starts and runs till Nov. 16.  Chou year (2009) and xu month already form "semi-3-penalties".  When it runs into a wei day, the day becomes a "year-breaker" day plus "3-penalties" day-- not suitable to make major decision or traveling (susceptible to traffic accident).

The following days are ram days, clashing ox and forming a  "3-penalties day" with xu month--  10/29 (ding-wei day) and 11/10 (ji-wei day).   You better stay home and avoid traveling or doing anything important or making major decision.

The chou-xu-wei combination is especially inauspicious for people with ram, ox and dog animal sign.  Even if you do not have these animal signs, but your spouse palace (day branch) has a wei (ram), chou (ox) or xu (dog), you should be extra careful during this month too.  It is not too late to get the Immortal Lu safe-driving metal talisman or at least you put a protection symbol of your favorite deity or religion into your car.

Feng Shui and 4P

I have run into a case of a ding-fire day-master (DM) with heart problem. But the client does not know her birth hour. Her current 10-year-luck has just entered into strong water formation. Heart problem normally involves ding-fire.

So naturally I would think she is a weak DM, but plugging in all 12 possible Chinese hours into her chart.  However, only one hour will make her DM strong, all the rest will be weak-- 1/12 chance.

I need to find more evidence to prove that she indeed is a strong DM.

How? By asking questions on personality, family relationship and personal preferences. Questions like:
-- who makes more decisions-- you or your spouse?
-- your spouse beats you up or you beat up your spouse?
-- what colors do you like?
-- do you take your time to do things?
........

The answers I got match to that of a strong DM. So what I can deduce is that even if water is favorable to a strong Ding day-master, but too much of a good thing still screws her heart up. It is all about yin-yang balance. She is over 70 years old.

Amazingly, I checked the Feng Shui of her house--- her bedroom is in NE with 5-9 star (causing heart, blood or eye problems) and annual 2-sickness star is at her main door. In terms of 8-mansions Feng Shui, her room is in "disaster" palace.

This is another case of 4P and Feng Shui synchonize to each other. I've used techniques from my Destiny Management courses plus Feng Shui cures for this case. Here are the cures used:

-- certain plants
-- coins
-- white crystal
-- removing certain items from her house

Ain't they green and natural?

Translations of 4P or Bazi terms

There are no commonly agreed translations of 4P terms. Different schools or teachers translate 4P terms according to his/her personal preferences. There are three major rules used in translations:

1. Literal translations: This simply gives a faithful and very often, horrible (in terms of culture shock) translations of the terms. For examples, “shi-shen” is translated as “eating god”, “qi-sha” becomes “7-killings”, “shang-guan” becomes “hurting officials or officers” and the likes. Problem with literal translations is that it may bias students’ perception towards certain terms as “bad” because it sounds horrible. In reality, every one of the “10 gods” or ‘transformation stars” (my terminology) can be positive or negative depending on the composition of the 4P chart. Another common misconception is the ubiquitous uses of the term "god" in 4P, like "useful god" (yong shen), "enmity god" (chou shen) and the like, making 4P sound "religious" when it is actually more statistical in nature.

2. Pin-yin translations: This gives a transliteration of the 4P terms like “shi-shen”, “zheng-guan” and etc. It takes some time to get used to these foreign terms. But it is great when you go back to the original Chinese texts or switching teachers/school.

3. Translation based on interpreted meanings: This translates the 4P terms based on the understanding of the translator. For example, shi-shen and shang-guan are translated as “output” stars. But different people have different understanding of the terms, so the translations can sometimes be confusing and shocking as well. Good translations under this should be “value-free” or NOT “value-laden”. It should also give meanings that are faithful or close to the original meanings of the terms. The translated terms should not influence the perception of the readers and students.

4. Mixing of all of the above

The following examples are the common translations of 4P's "10 gods" or "transformation stars":

4P TERMS: 10 GODS OR TRANSFORMATION STARS TRANSLATIONS
Jie-cai 劫财
Ken: JC, +peer ("+" stands for polarity "yang")
Others: rob wealth, competitor, unfriendly parallel, contender-star, unfriendly partner

Bi-jian 比肩
Ken: BJ, -peer ("-" stands for polarity "yin")
Others: friend, colleague, unfriendly parallel, friend-star, friendly buddy

Zheng--cai正财
Ken: ZC, +weatlh
Others: direct wealth, income, regular weatlh, proper wealth, main income, expected wealth, wife-star

Pian-cai偏财
Ken: PC, –wealth
Others: indirect wealth, wealth, unbecoming wealth, unexpected wealth, unexpected property, windfall star, godsend wealth, unexpected possession

Zheng-yin正印
Ken: ZY, +resource
Others: direct resource, resource/education, proper resource, main funds, proper care, mother-star, willingly nourished

Pian-yin 偏印
Ken: PY, –resource
Others: indirect resource, resource/education, unbecoming resource, unexpected funds, unbecoming care, guardian star, unwillingly nourished

Shang-guan伤官
Ken: SG, +output
Others: hurting officer, intelligence/aspirations, drastic ouput, actor-star, offending-star, harsh output

Shi-shen食神
Ken: SS, –output
Others: eating god, intelligence/aspirations, gracious output, artist-star, food-star, emotional IQ

Zheng-guan正官
Ken: ZG, +power
Others: direct officer, power/status, proper power, discipline, angel star, the obedience

Qi-sha七杀
Ken: QS, –power
Others: 7-killings, power/status, unbecoming power, unbecoming discipline, evil star, the stern

My personal bias is trying to make the translated terms as neutral as possible, so as not influencing the reader's perception. Each of these 10 "stars" or "gods" can be positive or negative depending on the combination of the natal chart and luck periods.

I do not mean other translations are not as "good" or "horrible" as mine. Translations reflect the worldviews, command of the Chinese language and mental conditions of the translators.

Eye problems and 4-Pillars

A friend told me that he has an eye surgery. Recently I also have problem with my right eye-- a big floating particle blurs my vision from time to time.

This friend encourages me to see an eye doctor ASAP. So I called an eye doctor for an appointment. But I can't get in until 4 weeks later. The doctor is very busy!

Someone has canceled his appointment and I took over this morning. The doctor went through the normal examination like dilating my pupil, checking the cornea and retina... etc. Dr. M found the "floater" inside my eye.

Dr. M is around 60 years old and pretty friendly and casual.

Dr. M found the "floater" inside my eye. Floater is the falling debris inside one's eye due to the aging of eye tissues.

"You did nothing to create that floater problem. It is simply that you are OLD! Older people have problem like this" The doctor said.

Doctor M is darn honest. This hurts more than me being the culprit!

"Is there any medication to fix this floater problem?"

"No."

"Do I need any surgery to get rid of it?"

"Surgery is normally not needed, unless the floater bothers you. It normally disintegrates after a month or two." The doctor replied.

"I'm into astrology. Do you have more patients this year than the average?" I asked the doctor because I suspect there is correlation between a strong earth year (2009) and eye problems.

"I don't know. I just keep working everyday in the last few weeks." Doctor M replied. Age must catches up with her too.

"So you think astrology has something to do with eye problems?" She curiously asked.

"Yes, I think strong earth energy cause more eye problems."

Well, to keep the story short, Dr. M said that I do not need to see her again unless something happen to my eyes and gave me some free eye-drops sample.

In terms of 4P, current year ji-chou (earth-ox) is a strong earth year and my own chart has a pair of earth (stem and branch) and fire. The strong earth drains my fire. Fire stands for eyes and heart. So I think if one's chart has weak fire and strong earth and annual luck brings in more earth, one's eyes may have problem.

If a chart has a lot of earth already, the likely health issues will be digestive system and skin for 2009.

Metal talismans for home protection, safe-driving & Grand Duke

I have only offered these metal talismans to my "Daoist Talismans" class students in the last 4 years. I got reports about that cars were totaled during accidents but the drivers did not suffer any injury with these metal talismans. There are also reports about protection from fire from the home protection talisman. So they are tested to be working pretty well.

I bought these metal talismans from a Daoist temple in Hong Kong. These talismans were put on the altar of the "Celestial Mother of the Stars" (Dou Mu) in a Grand Duke Hall. Dou Mu is the "boss" of the 60 Grand Dukes (Tai Sui). You may see some incense smoke on these talismans if I do not clean them before sending it out. So these talismans have absorbed the prayers and blessings of people and Daoist priests who had prayed to Dou Mou.

What is the big deal with Dou Mu? Most accidents, injuries, sickness and misfortunes are attributed to one's annual luck pillar (as in 4-Pillars) or current year's Grand Duke. So if you have something that has the blessing of Grand Duke's boss or mother, you may be able to get away from the misfortunes (Pal, it is all about relationship! ).

Why metal and not paper talisman? Most paper talismans last only one year. Metal talismans will last forever-- your great-great- great grandson can use it even after a few hundred years. All you need to do is "recharging" it once per year with my simple instructions.

These talismans come in 3 versions:
1. Safe-driving talisman (Hexagon shape, 5 cm diameter)
-- a must if you have teenager driver
-- if your city has too many crazy drivers
-- if your animal sign clashes the current Grand Duke

2. Home-protection talisman  (Hexagon shape, 5 cm diameter)
-- protects your home from fire, burglary
-- compensate for bad Feng Shui

The front side has a portrait of Immortal Lu (one of the 8 Immortals in Daoism). Back side has a powerful talisman. I've enclosed a picture of these talismans.

Although these hexagon-shaped talismans are inscribed with specific purpose, you can still take it out and carry with you when you:
-- do Feng Shui audits, for spiritual protection
-- go to hospitals
-- go to funeral home or cemetery
-- haunted places

3. Pendant version talisman (Oval shape, 3.4 cm. diameter w/ red neck string)
-- the hexagon talisman may be too bulky, this one is easily to carry around
-- general protection purposes

All the metal talismans have been benedicted and empowered by Daoist priests.

Here is how to order this talisman:
PRICE: US$30 each    (while supply lasts)
-- please specify "safe-driving",  "home protection" or "pendant"
SHIPPING: US$1 (USA); $2 (outside USA)
PAYMENT TYPE: VISA/MC or PAYPAL
Email to: kenlai88@yahoo. com
-- for instructions on how to make payment

"30" sounds like "guarantee to survive" in Cantonese.

Be prepared!  People with Ram animal sign need one for this year's Grand Duke.  People with Monkey animal sign will need one for next year.

Too poor to spare $30? No problem-- if you had purchased any correspondence course from me in the last few years, you have already gotten a red talisman card with each course. You can stick that card onto your car windscreen or home windows as protection.

"My Cat is a Feng Shui Master!"

Click on the pix to see bigger image
Last summer I become an "accidental owner" of a 3-years old black cat. She weighs 15 pounds with a foot-long fluffy tail. I call her "meow-meow". The follow link is about how I "got stuck" with meow-meow.
http://kenlaifengshui.blogspot.com/2008/07/cats-and-lottery.html

This is not an ordinary feline. She is very gentle-- even with bugs! She chases bugs, crickets, and spirders around the house but has never killed any. She gently puts her paw on the bug and feels it and then let it escape. The following link is an account of one episode with a baby cricket.
http://kenlaifengshui.blogspot.com/2008/07/big-black-cat-and-baby-cricket.html

I notice that meow-meow tends to sleeps on certain locations. She sleeps on Feng Shui system's timely "8-white star" location. "8-white star" is the most auspicious star during Period 8 (2004- 2023).

My house has 3-levels. She just sleeps on the "8-white star" locations of each level! This feline knows Feng Shui. I can rent it out to do Feng Shui for people. Next section is some Feng Shui tips for cat directly from Master Meow-meow.

FENG SHUI FOR CATSThe Chinese zodiac animals do not really include little cats. But it has a big cat-- tiger. So we also group cats under the tiger category.

Tiger or "Yin" (in Chinese earthly branch system) is wood in nature. It is represented by trunky plants or trees. Tiger combines with horse ("Wu") and dog ("Xu"). Tiger also combines with pig ("Hai"). So the directions represented by these animals will be favorable to cats.

If your main door is located in one of the following directions, it will be good for cat-raising and your cat is likely be strong and healthy:

--NE (tiger) direction (esp. NE-east)
--South (Horse) direction
--East (rabbit) direction (wood direction)
--NW (dog) direction (esp. NW-west, NNW)
--North (water direction, nurtures wood)

If your main door does not fall into none of these 5 favorable directions for cat, you can put your cat bed in one of the above directions in your house.

Cat clashes with monkey. Monkey is metal in nature and stands for SW-west direction. The elemental nature of west direction is also metal. So if your main door sits on SW-west or west, your cat may get sick more often. You at least put its bed in one of the 5 good directions listed above.

Cat's elemental nature is wood. Metal chops wood. Too much metal will hurt the health of your cat. So you should not put too many metal objects around your cat.

Period 8 is current Feng Shui's time dimension. The ruling star is 8 or Gen trigram. Tiger or "Yin" is part of the Gen trigram (dog is Gen under the Yi-jing system ). So taking good care of a cat means you are taking care of the ruler star 8 or your wealth! Go adopt a cat from your local Animal Humane Society will bring you more good luck during Period 8.

The following link is another blog message about cat.
