Current year's Dragon Boat Festival falls on this coming Tuesday  (May 30, 2017, ding-si day).

Chinese collect "dragon-boat water" for cleansing because the day is the "yangest" day in the year.  It is called dragon-boat water because Chinese run dragon-boat races on water during this festival.

Negative energy is considered as "yin".  The cure for it is to apply yang energy.  Dragon-boat water is collected during the yangest day and hour of the year and so it has a high level of yang energy.

Good wealth luck comes with its disadvantages too

Most people wish they have good wealth luck.  But according to yin-yang principle in Chinese metaphysics, positives exist only because negatives also exist.  The "goodies" that come with good wealth luck also accompany with some disadvantages or misfortunes.

Below are some of the disadvantages:


1.  Strong wealth elements imply numerous affairs
-- Wealth element in male Bazi chart means wealth luck and woman luck.  Men with strong wealth luck usually includes "pian-cai" or "-wealth".  This means mistress and numerous girl friends, creating difficulties in maintaining a "normal" or harmonious marital relationship.  This is easy to comprehend even without Bazi knowledge-- men with money are likely to use money to attract women, not to mention some women like men with money.

2. Strong wealth elements could mean jinxing daymaster's (DM) mother
-- In Bazi formula, wealth controls resource.  What DM controls is wealth.  What gives birth to DM is resource element or mother.  For example, the mother of a Geng-metal DM is earth.  Wealth of a metal DM is wood.  By 5-elements theory, wood controls earth.  When a Geng-metal DM with strong wealth elements (wood), it means he also jinxing his mother (earth).   This usually means mother is chronically sick, suffers premature death or bad relationship with DM.

3. Strong wealth elements could mean unfilial or stupid offspring
-- In Bazi formula, what DM nurtures or produces is shi-shen and shang-guan (output or children). DM's output or talent produces wealth.  Hence wealth drains output or children.  DM with strong wealth elements will drain output even further and hence stupid or unfilial children.  We all have read about how rich kids squandered their family fortune.

Of course,  not every rich person will suffer these disadvantages due to other combinations in their natal chart like their social and karma background.

The definition of happiness is different for different people.  If one thinks rocky marital relationship, lacking maternal love and producing stupid kids, can justify good wealth luck, then these are not their disadvantages but "cost of doing business" for good wealth luck.  Some may think these sacrifices may be too much for good wealth luck.

How to find your helpful people and directions

In Bazi, there is a symbolic star called "Tian-yi Nobleman" that stands for helpful people available when a person is in trouble or danger.

The calculation of Tian-yi Nobleman requires knowledge of Bazi and construction of a Bazi natal chart.  This may be too much for some people.  Here is a simple method to figure out your noblemen or helpful people based on your Chinese zodiac animal sign.

Feng Shui: Big tree in front of main door

"Big tree" here means trees with a 12 inches/ 25 cm or larger diameter trunk.

Some city governments, like Toronto in Canada, specifies home builders to plant a tree in front of the main door of each new house.  After 10 years or so, these small trees become big trees with serious Feng Shui implications.

Below are some notes taken from "Advanced Visual Form Feng Shui" manual:

1.  A tree in front of the main door is called "heart piercing sha" or "tree god blocks road" is very bad Feng Shui.  It stands for blockage in life and illness like liver problems.
 
2.  If there is a tree in the left side of the main door, it is called "green dragon tree".  It stands for protection, nurturing and male helpful people/ mentors.
 
3.  If there is a tree in the right side of the main door without a corresponding sized tree in the left side, it is called "white tiger tree".  It stands for dominant women in the house, negative peach-blossom (mistress) or unwelcome female guests.
 
4.  Tree located in front of main door resonates with residents inside the house.  If branches has problem, someone inside the house will have hand or tendon problem.  If the tree trunk has problem, resident’s body may have corresponding problem.  If the trunk is drilled a hole, someone in the house will have surgery or bleeding ulcer.
 
5.  Seeing willow trees in front of main door— residents are likely to have mental problems.
 
6.  Dying trees in front of main door—stands for blood related sickness, especially bleeding ulcer.
 
7.  Trees near windows should not have branches growing into or touching the windows-- this may cause eye problems to the residents.
 
8.  Tree touching the roof of a house-- moving-in guests do not want to leave.

Fa-Qi-Men-Dun-Jia or Spiritual Qi-Men-Dun-Jia

In the last few years, some people market courses which they claim are Fa-Qi-Men-Dun-Jia or "Spiritual QMDJ".  My students have asked me if they are "real" or "not too real".

I could not judge if these spiritual QMDJ materials are "real" or "not real" because I have not seen the materials.  But from the approach that these materials are marketed, we can make some "educated" deductions.

Unlike traditional Chinese metaphysics subjects like Bazi and Feng Shui, which do not require supernatural power and/ or divine authorizations, both Spiritual QMDJ and Daoist Miao-Shan techniques involve numerous chants, offerings, incenses, ritual papers, ritual declarations/ summons/ contracts, talismans, hand gestures and steps or walk formations.  These chants are mostly ancient and are difficult to translate into modern Chinese (even more difficult to translate into English if the translator is not well-versed in classical Chinese!).   These practices are likely requiring spiritual membership and vows in that particular sect or school. Unauthorized practices of these rituals or techniques may bring misfortune or even mental illness to the users.

Spiritual QMDJ is more susceptible to marketing fraud as it is not difficult to mix Daoist Mao-Shan magical rituals into QMDJ.  Mao-Shan Fa-shu 茅山法术 is well-known for its magical rituals, but it is not QMDJ.  There are over 3600 of this so-called Spiritual QMDJ practices in the Chinese-speaking market which are more Mao-Shan magical rituals than QMDJ.

A simple way to spot out "not so real Spiritual QMDJ" is that teachers of authentic spiritual QMDJ will NOT automatically take in any student unseen even if the later pays a large sum of "tuition".  For teachers of spiritual subjects, taking in a student or disciple is like choosing a marriage partner.  They are more concerned with the Bazi chart and moral character of the potential disciple.  This is to keep the likelihood of misusing spiritual knowledge to a minimum and protecting the reputation of the teacher.  Any abuses of spiritual knowledge like spiritual QMDJ by students will be counted towards the karma credit account of their teachers.  This is the major rationale behind of not taking everyone who pays as a Spiritual QMDJ student.

According to traditional belief, people who use spiritual or magical practices to hurt others or for unfair advantages or illegal gains will be subjected to karmic retribution or punishment. Selling or marketing divine or deity power is a taboo in traditional Chinese metaphysics.  The common karmic retributions are:

• desolate 孤
• premature death 夭
• poverty 贫
• disability 残

Any "master" who takes in a few hundred spiritual QMDJ students at a time does not match the profile of a traditional spiritual QMDJ master but a successful marketeer.  The question of whether these spiritual QMDJ courses are real or not real does not really matter if the transmitter of spiritual knowledge does not follow traditional practices.  In this scenario, even the "real thing" is rendered into "not so real".

Enhance your wealth luck with personalized color clothing: Zodiac Animal edition

Color can affect the energy field around us.  There are also energy fields that enhance one's wealth luck or energy.  This wealth energy is different for each individual based on the year of birth.

The easiest way to tap into this wealth energy is to dress in one's "wealth color".  Below is the dress color that one should choose to enhance his/ her wealth luck:

For this edition, we use Chinese zodiac animal sign of your birth year for calculation because it is very easy and does not need Bazi or 4-Pillars knowledge.

You can find your animal sign by matching your birth year with the following list.  Use the animal sign of previous year if your birthday is between January 1 to February 3rd.  For example, if you were born in February 1st, 1961, you animal sign is rat and not ox. 

Dress color for wealth:  Color spectrum of fire-- red, purple, pink or orange

This wealth color calculation using zodiac animal sign is an approximation.  A more accurate method is using Bazi or 4-Pillars.  But you have to learn basic Bazi.

House-hunting Feng Shui for the laziest buyer

Today is your lucky day.  This is the easiest house-hunting Feng Shui for the laziest person or someone who wants to save a bundle of Feng Shui consultation fees.  It is also called "5-no Feng Shui".  Below are all you need to know when you buy or rent a house:

1. No missing northwest corner (also no missing southwest corner if you have a wife or live with your mother)
2. No toilet/ kitchen in center of house
3. No toilet/ kitchen in northwest
4. No T-junction in front of house
5. No tower (power-tower/ cellular tower/ water tower) within 100 meters diameter of the house
